Cinematic colors with the S-Cinetone™ color function

The S-Cinetone color function, developed for Sony's acclaimed FX9, is the FX3's default setting for cinema optics. It's perfectly tuned to the needs of modern content creators - with rich colors and natural skin tones that can be matched with other Cinema Line cameras without correction. 

The FX3's high-precision AF and fast readout speed ensure detailed 4K images even at high frame rates. Slow & fast motion modes let you adjust the frame rate of the shot and capture beautiful motion with up to 5x slow motion (with 24p output).  

S-Log3 gamma curve and S-Gamut3.Cine enable high-quality color reproduction over a wide dynamic range. Shots can be matched with footage from other Cinema Line cameras during post-processing. The Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) HDR image profile enables direct HDR (HLG) playback on compatible TVs without post-processing. 

For demanding post-processing workflows, 16-bit RAW output is possible via HDMI connection to compatible external recorders . In-camera simultaneous capture of XAVC HS 4K, XAVC S 4K or XAVC S-I 4K, and proxy files. RAW video resolution of 4,264 x 2,408 [16:9] exceeds DCI 4K resolution.

Capable of internal 4K capture, the FX3 offers 10-bit depth and 4:2:2 color sampling with All Intra or Long-GOP compression. This allows for even finer color gradations while maintaining natural gradations - for true creative freedom.   

AF uses phase detection in the focal plane to accurately track subjects across virtually the entire image area. Fast hybrid AF focuses precisely even in shallow depth-of-field shots and at high frame rates of 120 bps in 4K (QFHD).

Tracking features keep your subject in focus so you can concentrate on composition. Real-time eye AF ensures precise focus on the face and eyes. Real-time tracking is based on AI-based algorithms from Sony. 

The FX3 features seven AF transition speeds for easy focus changes and five AF subject change sensitivity settings to specify how easily autofocus should change to another subject. The subject can also be selected by touching the LCD. 

Sony E-mount lenses offer smooth, responsive autofocus with outstanding optical performance and functionality in demanding applications. The linear actuator technology of Sony's E-mount lenses delivers faster, more precise AF performance for creative ideas.

Compact and lightweight, the FX3 is designed for mobility. The attached handle and accessory mount without bracket allow for quick setup/disassembly and fluid shooting. Main body and cover are made of lightweight magnesium alloy for greater durability and performance in demanding environments.

A grip with XLR adapter with two full-size XLR connectors can be attached to the camera's Multi Interface (MI) shoe for convenient, stable shooting in challenging situations (e.g., frog perspective). 

Active mode with 5-axis optical image stabilization improves stabilization during video recording. For high image quality, the gyro sensor precisely measures camera shake and optically compensates for it. This enables stable video even when shooting handheld without a gimbal, such as when walking, and at 4K resolution. 

Handheld footage can be stabilized after the fact as the gyro sensors record the appropriate metadata. Sony's Catalyst Browse/Catalyst Prepare desktop applications make automatic image stabilization and cropping easy. Recorded rotations can also be used with Catalyst. 

Indicator lights on the front and rear of the FX3 show whether the camera is recording. They are clearly visible to both the operator and the person in front of the camera.

The 3.0" touchscreen LC display (1.44 million dots) can be flipped open and flexibly positioned to ensure good visibility even when used with a gimbal. The touchscreen allows intuitive operation of numerous camera settings. 

Frequently used controls and six customizable buttons are accessible with one hand. The other can be used to adjust the lens or balance. CFexpress memory cards type A are suitable for demanding recording and support high bit rates. The two identical media slots support CFexpress Type A as well as conventional SDXC UHS-I and UHS-II cards and enable relay or backup recording.

A network connection via Wi-Fi® or wired via a USB Type C port enables remote control via smartphone or tablet - with NFC One-touch or manual pairing. Shooting can be controlled remotely via a PC running Sony's Imaging Edge Desktop™ application or a mobile device running Imaging Edge Mobile™. Photos and videos can be transferred using high-speed FTP. 

For efficient workflows and shooting in demanding conditions, wired and wireless remote recording is possible via PC or mobile devices with Imaging Edge Mobile. Imaging Edge Webcam™ enables online video communication in high image quality.
