Everything photographers demand from an ultra-wide-angle zoom -and more

The pioneer of ultra-wide-angle lenses, SIGMA has developed and launched many outstanding products in this category over the past decades. Now SIGMA is introducing an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens that is perfect for the era of high-resolution digital cameras. The SIGMA 12-24mm F4 DG HSM | Art delivers optimal image quality, from the center of the frame to the edges, and offers significantly minimized distortion and a particularly low closest focusing distance. To achieve this uncompromising quality, SIGMA utilized its in-depth knowledge of lens design and its wide range of advanced technologies. State-of-the-art materials such as low-dispersion glass play a crucial role, while the ultra-large diameter aspherical lens also owes much to SIGMA's advanced lens manufacturing methods.

    1. The third generation of the 12-24mm ultra-wide-angle zoom

Ultra-wide-angle pioneer SIGMA launched its first ultra-wide-angle zoom in 1979: the SIGMA ZOOM GAMMA 21-35mm F3.5-4. Since then, they have continued to develop new ultra-wide-angle zoom lenses, always using their state-of-the-art technologies, of course. In 2003, they introduced the SIGMA 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 EX DG HSM the world's first ultra-wide-angle zoom for DSLRs with full-frame sensors. in 2011, SIGMA released a new version of this lens: the SIGMA 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 II DG HSM. The first two 12-24mm models already offered an angle of view that significantly exceeded that of the human eye. This allowed users to enjoy breathtaking perspectives of the ultra-wide-angle range. Now the third generation, the SIGMA 12-24mm F4 DG HSM | Art, continues this tradition with image quality and ease of use on a whole new level.

    2. Superior image quality - from the center to the edges of the frame

Photographers who use ultra-wide-angle lenses place particular emphasis on outstanding image quality, from the center of the frame to the edges - and without distortion. Such performance is immensely valuable, especially for architectural photography. The new SIGMA 12-24mm F4 DG HSM | Art draws on SIGMA's accumulated knowledge and skills in aspherical lens manufacturing and processing, and incorporates multiple aspherical lenses made of precision-molded glass. In addition, the lens features lens elements made of FLD (F- Low Dispersion) glass, with performance equivalent to fluorite glass, and optimized power distribution. The combination of these features helps minimize distortion, lateral chromatic aberration and coma. As a result, image quality is outstanding across the entire frame.

    3. Equipped with SIGMA's latest technologies

Equipped with an 80mm aspherical lens the largest in this lens class

The SIGMA 12-24mm F4 DG HSM | Art features an aspherical lens of bare pressed glass with 80mm with this diameter it is the largest such element in this lens class. This lens highly effectively minimizes distortion, spherical aberration and coma.

At F4 across the entire focal length range, the lens is a full step brighter than conventional lenses. Photographers can now use a faster shutter speed to capture, for example, leaves moving in the wind and other fast-moving subjects in sharp focus. In addition, this lens is extremely easy to use, thanks to its constant aperture throughout the zoom operation.

    - Close-up focusing distance of 24cm*

Photographers can take advantage of this ultra-wide-angle lens's extremely wide field of view to create close-ups with impressively expansive backgrounds.

*At the 24mm end of the focal length range.

    - Newly developed HSM for fast AF

The newly designed HSM (Hyper-Sonic Motor) is larger and its speed is 1.3 times that of its predecessor. Even at low speeds, its performance is exceptionally stable.

    - The mount is dustproof and splashproof

A rubber seal is incorporated into the lens mount to protect the mount from dust andwater drops. The front and rear lenses have a water and oil repellent coating. This is especially useful when shooting in drizzle, at the sea with its spray, and in a variety of other situations.

    - Art product line with great artistic expression potential

SIGMA groups all its interchangeable lenses into three product lines: Contemporary, Art and Sports, each with a clearly defined concept. The Art product line has been designed with sophisticated optical performance and high expressive power in mind, and meets particularly high artistic demands. With their astonishing imaging performance that meets the highest standards, these lenses are not only perfect for landscapes, portraits, still lifes, close-ups and snapshots, but also open up unimagined creative perspectives, especially for artistically ambitious photographers. SIGMA's lenses in the Art product line are welcome high-performance additions to any photographer's equipment. They excel in the studio as well as in outdoor use with their impressive performance and convince with their expressive power, whether in architectural shots, starry skies or many other sceneries.

    4. The SIGMA Global Vision product lines set new standards for image quality

    - Compatible with the MC-11 port converter

The MC-11 mount converter allows interchangeable lenses with SIGMA SA mount and SIGMA EF mount to be used on camera bodies with the Sony E-mount. Owners of different camera systems can now use their valuable lenses flexibly and owners of Sony E-mount cameras can enjoy ultra-wide-angle zoom photography.

    - TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) material

To ensure precise operation, the internal parts are made of metal orThermally Stable Composite (TSC)*, which combines very well with metals.

*TSC exhibits thermal expansion similar to that of aluminum. Components made of TSC are very dimensionally stable and thus enable extremely precise lens construction. Compared to the commonly used polycarbonate with 20% glass content, TSC offers about 70% higher elasticity. And compared to polycarbonate with 30% glass content.
