Designed as a camera that defines PENTAX PRINCIPLES in the SLR tradition, the PENTAX K-3 Mark III offers outstanding imaging performance, as well as a wealth of features that focus on the photographer, the passion for the image and its creation, and the fun and excitement of the entire photographic process.

Based on the five basic principles for PENTAX SLR cameras, attention to detail has been paid. For example, the large and bright pentaprism viewfinder has been designed to fully immerse the photographer in the shot.

The necessary imaging power is achieved by the completely new BSI image sensor, the new image processor, and the accelerator unit, which is also new. Not only outstanding image quality, but also high dynamic range, low noise and high detail sharpness, up to a peak sensitivity of ISO 1600000, are made possible as a result.
The compact, rugged camera body provides excellent usability and portability - advantages that are characteristic of the APS-C format.

Powerful viewfinder

New - Optical viewfinder with approx. 100% field of view and approx. 1.05x magnification

The PENTAX K-3 Mark III features a high-performance viewfinder with a high-refractive-index glass pentaprism for approximately 1.05x magnification (with the FA 50mm F1.4 lens set to infinity). Despite its compact, lightweight APS-C body, it delivers a true-to-life, large viewfinder image equivalent to that of a full-frame SLR, helping you get fully engaged in shooting.

Thanks to the low reflection of the pentaprism, this viewfinder provides a nearly 10 percent increase in brightness while ensuring a nearly 100 percent viewfinder image. By incorporating a distortion-correcting optical element and optimizing lens coating, it provides natural, lifelike image reproduction with high magnification.

Optimizing the photographic composition process

Under the eyepiece is an eye sensor that turns off the monitor when you approach the viewfinder. This prevents the status screen illumination from interfering with your view while shooting, and allows you to take pictures in a more relaxed manner.

Optimizing ease of use

The PENTAX K-3 Mark III features a transparent LCD viewfinder display that provides a larger area for data overlay in the viewfinder window. This allows you to adjust the camera's settings without taking your eyes off the viewfinder, allowing you to better focus on the subject. The camera also allows you to customize display data, such as grid pattern and AF focus point, making it easy to quickly change settings for specific scenes or subjects.

Control button customization

Many photographers develop a very special style based on the imaging characteristics of old lens classics, creating a distinctive atmosphere in the images they capture. PENTAX has a long tradition of the K bayonet, which is still used today. That is why the PENTAX K-3 Mark III was designed to work with the old lenses. The camera not only saves the aperture value as Exif data when you set a desired aperture with the electronic dial, but also allows you to meter light and take pictures with the aperture closed. It even supports TAv mode. It also allows for more segmented lens focal length adjustment when shooting SR (Shake Reduction).

Shutter release optimization

The PENTAX K-3 Mark III features a shutter release with a "scissor mechanism". This was already used in the PENTAX 645Z and the PENTAX K-1 and provides a lighter and smoother shutter release, minimizing camera shake and making it easier to release the shutter during continuous shooting. Furthermore, the camera's mirror and shutter mechanism has been improved, resulting in, among other things, a reduction in the time delay between shutter release and image capture compared to the PENTAX K-3 II. By reducing unwanted mechanical actions, such as mirror bounce, a crisp, pleasant shutter release response is achieved. With each press of the shutter button, you can feel and hear the smooth movement and quick response - which is an essential part of sensitive photography.

Thanks to multi-dimensional image space filtering, the PENTAX K-3 Mark III significantly reduces image noise while preserving the fine contours of a subject.

This advanced technology optimizes the camera's resolving power and faithfully reproduces the texture and details of the subject.
It also improves image reproduction in the lower sensitivity range while enhancing the reproduction of blacks in the higher sensitivity range, where color reproduction becomes more difficult. Even at the highest sensitivity of ISO 1,600,000, it delivers a natural, well-defined image.

The everlasting pursuit of high-quality imaging

PENTAX has further improved the image quality of the PENTAK K-3 Mark III by renewing the image sensor, imaging engine and accelerator unit. This was based on PENTAX's image design concept, which emphasizes the detailed reproduction of textures and structures.
Through repeated sensitivity testing, PENTAX has greatly improved overall image quality through efficient control of the camera's noise reduction, while focusing on the overall balance of captured images with emphasis on factors such as the natural reproduction of gradations and colors.

Thanks to the combination of a newly developed mirror and shutter drive unit and the fast, powerful PRIME V image processor, the PENTAX K-3 Mark III offers a high-speed drive system with a maximum speed of approximately 12 frames per second in AF.S mode or approximately 11 frames per second in AF.C mode. This system allows you to capture the moment in a way that was not possible with previous models.

*The continuous shooting speed may decrease depending on the type of lens used and/or the aperture, shutter speed and sensitivity selected by the user.
*A certain amount of time is required to play back images captured in continuous shooting mode. The time required may vary depending on the number of images captured and/or the capture format.

High-speed, high-precision mirror and shutter drive unit

To improve the frame rate of continuous shooting and enhance the performance of AF and AE systems, the PENTAX K-3 Mark III features a new mirror and shutter drive unit that significantly reduces the time required to drive the mirror and shutter mechanism.
Minimizing the effect of mirror bounce also increases the camera's frame rate while allowing sufficient time for distance and light metering.
As a result, the time required for the sequence has been reduced to about two-thirds compared to the PENTAX K-3 II.

SAFOX 13 AF system with 101 focus points

The number of focus points in the PENTAX K-3 Mark III has been increased from 27 in the PENTAX K-3 II to 101, 25 of which are cross-type sensors. The AF area has also been greatly expanded. This AF system with high metering field density increases flexibility in image composition while optimizing focus accuracy. The center AF point is designed for use with a fast lens with an open aperture of F2.8 or larger, and enables super-precise focusing even with very fast lenses.

Compact body

When developing the PENTAX K-3 Mark III, PENTAX paid special attention to excellent handling and easy transport. Both are outstanding features associated with APS-C format SLR cameras.
With many functional improvements over the PENTAX K-3 II, PENTAX has kept the width and height to the same dimensions as the PENTAX K-3 II, while reducing the depth (the distance between the lens bayonet and LCD monitor surface) by approximately 2.5 mm. This slim design allows a larger protrusion of the viewfinder eyepiece to facilitate image viewing while realizing the PENTAX design concept of compact body size and easy viewfinder photography, which is an important element of product development.

The top, bottom, front and back of the PENTAX K-3 Mark III are made of magnesium alloy. This lightweight, highly rigid material not only protects the camera's internal mechanisms from shock and vibration, but also provides the appearance of a solid, high-quality camera body.

Dustproof, weatherproof construction

Both the camera body and the optional D-BG8 battery grip are designed to be dustproof and weatherproof to prevent dust and water from entering. When an AW-series or WR-series lens is mounted,* they form a highly airtight system that ensures reliable performance even in adverse weather conditions.

Excellent cold resistance down to -10 °C

In anticipation of use in low-temperature locations, PENTAX subjected the camera to demanding environmental tests at temperatures as low as -10°C*, evaluating the performance of mechanisms and electronic circuits, and measuring the precision of optical components.

*Battery performance decreases as the temperature drops. When shooting in low temperature environments, users are advised to carry spare batteries and keep them warm in an inside pocket.

Two SD card slots

The PENTAX K-3 Mark III offers two SD card slots.
One of the slots complies with the UHS-II standard for writing data at high speed. Image files can be stored on two separate memory cards, with a choice of modes: Sequential, Duplicate, and RAW/JPEG Separation. Images can also be copied between the two cards.

The PENTAX K-3 Mark III records movie clips in 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels; 30 or 24 frames per second).
The camera's touchscreen control panel makes it easy to select movie recording functions and exposure settings, while the SR II mechanism ensures blur-free shooting.

Wireless LAN

By installing the dedicated Image Sync app* on your mobile device, you can take advantage of a variety of wireless LAN features, including image data transfer with the option of data reduction (an automatic image transfer function is available when the wireless LAN connection is enabled). This makes saving and using captured images easier and more flexible. This application also allows remote control of camera functions from your mobile device.

Compatibility with Bluetooth Low Energy

The PENTAX K-3 Mark III is compatible with Bluetooth 4.2 to transfer location data detected by a mobile device to the camera via Image Sync and save it to the captured image, making it easier to organize images.
