As the lens of the series, the HD PENTAX-D FA 70-200 mm F/2.8 ED DC AW is consistently designed for high imaging performance and adds another premium lens to the range for the PENTAX K bayonet. The construction of high-quality lens elements, including ED (Extra-low Dispersion), Super ED and Super-Low Dispersion elements, in combination with the PENTAX HD (High Definition) coating, ensures brilliant and razor-sharp images right to the edges.
Many first-class features as well as the weather and dust resistant housing make it a reliable all-round lens even for the most demanding outdoor conditions or for use on the upcoming PENTAX KB full-frame camera.
Versatile premium telephoto zoom lens with high input speed
The HD PENTAX-D FA 70-200 mm F/2.8 ED DC AW is just as universally usable on KB full-frame cameras as it is on our current K-series APS cameras. Converted to this format, this results in an effective focal length of 107 to 307 mm. This focal length range and the large aperture are equally convincing for portrait and action photographers. The premium lenses in the PENTAX system are characterized by one. With an input aperture of F/2.8 over the entire zoom range, this lens offers the best conditions for working with different levels of sharpness, e.g. for portrait photography. At the same time, the high speed together with the high imaging performance also allows for shorter shutter speeds, e.g. for freezing action scenes.
Complex lens design for perfect imaging quality
The lens design is a key factor in achieving particularly demanding image quality. Two ED elements (Extra-low Dispersion), two Super ED elements and four Super-low Dispersion elements ensure effective compensation of chromatic aberrations over the entire zoom range. This guarantees clear, brilliant image results and sharpness right into the corners. In addition, rounded aperture blades in the lens ensure a natural and beautiful bokeh, which is especially important for portrait photography.
Innovative multi-layer coatings for outstanding light transmission
The cutting-edge technology of this premium lens is already evident in the individual lenses. For example, all lens elements feature the new multi-layer HD (High Definition) coating and the lens surfaces feature the new Aero Bright Coating II. This multi-layer and nanotechnology-based lens treatment reduces reflections by an additional 50% compared to conventional coatings. This results in maximum contrast and sharpness without flare or ghosting. In addition, the front lens is equipped with SP (Super Protect) coating that protects its surface from dirt.
Weatherproof construction
The particularly weather-resistant construction of this AW (All Weather) series lens features 13 special seals that effectively prevent the ingress of moisture and dust, thus providing optimum protection against rain, splashing water or spray, for example. In combination with the weatherproof housings of the current PENTAX K-series SLR cameras, this means that use even under the most difficult environmental conditions is no problem.
Fast and quiet autofocus drive with new Quick Shift function
The HD PENTAX-D FA 70-200 mm F/2.8 ED DC AW rotary zoom lens has a particularly quiet, fast and reliable DC autofocus motor. The new integrated Quick Shift function simplifies focusing and offers even more creative freedom. The previous Quick Shift function with autofocus priority (QF S/A), in which manual corrections can only be made after focusing has been completed, has been expanded to include the Quick Shift function with manual focus priority (QF S/M), in which intervention in automatic focusing is possible at any time. However, the autofocus can also be switched off completely.
In addition, the focus range can be limited via another switch on the lens. In addition to the entire focus range, the AF range can be switched to the ranges between 1.2 to 4 m and 4 m infinity.
Practical handling
A newly designed tripod adapter allows quick switching between portrait and landscape formats as well as balanced stable mounting of the camera on a tripod. If necessary, the tripod adapter can also be easily removed.
