    One D-SLR, two autofocus systems

Welcome to a world of unmatched flexibility. The full-frame D780 camera includes a fast hybrid AF system specifically for live view shooting and a fast, reliable autofocus system with phase detection for viewfinder photography. In live view, the high-precision autofocus system provides 273 sensor-level points plus eye AF. When shooting with the viewfinder, you can rely on Nikon's powerful 51-point autofocus system and world-class focus tracking.

    Autofocus for viewfinder shooting

The 51-point phase-detection autofocus system has sensitivity down to 3 EV. In the bright optical viewfinder, you can follow the action you want to capture sharply and in real time. For subjects in motion, the camera tracks focus at lightning speed even in low light.

    Always on the ball

In viewfinder photography, the 51-point autofocus system lets you quickly adjust and switch between advanced autofocus modes. Point group control captures subjects quickly and isolates them from the background with impressive confidence.

    Autofocus in Live View

When shooting in Live View, the 273-point Hybrid AF system covers approximately 90% of the frame in both the horizontal and vertical directions. Thanks to the tiltable monitor, it is possible to shoot from almost any angle. It also allows the shutter to be released and the autofocus to be operated via touch function.

    Sharp in any light

The hybrid AF system with 273 measuring points works with a sensitivity of up to ?4 EV, provided the lens has a light intensity of at least 1:2. For really dark subjects, you can activate "low-light autofocus" and shoot at automatic exposure settings up to 6 EV.

    The view in the center

When shooting in Live View, the sophisticated Hybrid AF system with Eye AF can capture the eyes of portrait subjects and keep them in focus. Even in a crowd. You select the eye to focus on with the multi-function selector. The camera keeps the focus on that eye even when the person is constantly moving.

Capture the seconds that really matter

When shooting with the viewfinder, continuous shooting rates of up to 7 frames per second are available with autofocus and automatic exposure adjustment. And if you use "Silent Live View Shutter", you can even shoot up to 12 frames per second. Shots in RAW format are also recorded at full resolution.

    Ultra-fast continuous shooting

You want to show the movement in the jumps In Live View, you can shoot photos in Full HD resolution (2 MP) at frame rates of 120 frames per second. Or 4K/UHD photos (8 MP) at up to 30 fps.

Let your creativity run wild without limitations. Thanks to the elaborate weather sealing and the robust magnesium alloy body, the D780 is ready for any situation. The two memory card slots accommodate fast UHS-II SD memory cards to handle the data volume of the camera's high continuous shooting rates and keep the buffer memory free. The deep grip and long battery life make all the difference, especially during longer sessions.

    Customize

Key settings can be quickly adjusted via touch controls or with the dials. When shooting or filming with manual focus, the electronic adjustment aid provides a reliable check of the sharpness in the selected focus measuring field.

    Confirm

The optical viewfinder with a magnification factor of 0.70 provides a large field of view and 100 percent field coverage. Shots can be quickly checked on the large tilting LCD monitor with approx. 2.359 million pixels: double-tapping on an image detail displays it in 100% view.

    Views

The in-camera editing menu lets you instantly crop images horizontally and vertically. You can choose to delete superfluous shots from one memory card or from both at the same time.

Fascinating views. Extreme action. The 24.5-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS image sensor and EXPEED 6 image processor deliver wide dynamic range and great performance across the entire ISO range. Incredible precision is achieved with the 180,000-pixel RGB sensor inherited from the D850 and the advanced Scene Recognition System.

    Vision turned into images

You shoot in dramatic weather conditions or at night under the bright city lights. With multiple metering and white balance functions, you can quickly respond to changes in natural light or high contrast situations.

    Bright or low light

With an ISO range of 100 to 51 200, expandable to an incredible 204 800 and down to ISO 50, instant adaptation to changing lighting conditions is possible. Rich tones in bright sunlight. Fine details and nuances in twilight.

    Everything is possible

Exposure times from 1/8000 to 900 s offer maximum flexibility in exposure time selection. Nikon flash units synchronize effortlessly with even the fastest shutter speeds for fantastic action shots. Of course, you can use slower shutter speeds ? for dramatic light trails and night shots.

You've never been freer to create

You can attach your favorite NIKKOR lenses with F bayonet directly to the D780. Plus, the camera is compatible with all Nikon flash units. Advanced Wireless Lighting with radio control is fully supported, so you can use the versatile SB-5000 flash unit. With fast data transfer and wireless connectivity, images can be transferred with ease.

    Remote triggering

With the SnapBridge app, you can use a smart device as an external monitor and remote control.
However, remote triggering is also possible with the optional WR-1 and WR-R10 wireless remote controls.

    Fast connections

With the WT-7 wireless LAN adapter, you can connect a network cable to the camera and transfer images directly to an FTP server or computer at a speed of 866.7 Mbps.

    Ready for smart devices

Nikon's SnapBridge app lets you filter and transfer JPEGs, RAW images (NEF), and movies to smart devices. When used with the D780, you can filter by date and batch transfer a selection.

With the image sensor and its 6K resolution, the D780 produces high-resolution 4K/UHD footage at 30p/25p/24p and without cropping. You can use the camera to record full HD slow motion movies at 120p with audio. And you can shoot DX-format footage at frame rates of 50p/60p. The AF drive speed and focus tracking sensitivity can be adjusted while filming. In addition, four AF point controls are available for video.

Dynamic range of up to 12 light levels provides more flexibility for editing and grading. Shooting with N-Log at a high color depth of 10 bits results in four times the information density compared to the standard color depth of 8 bits.

The time required for color grading in postproduction is eliminated. With the D780, you can record HLG HDR footage with high information density on an external video recorder and view it directly on a compatible TV or monitor.

You can record timecode in drop-frame or non-drop-frame format and output via 10-bit HDMI. Atomos Open Protocol supports synchronizing the start/stop of HDMI recordings via an external recorder. Or via the camera.

    In-camera time-lapse

You can create spectacular 4K/UHD time-lapse movies in-camera. Exposure compensation reduces variations in successive frames to create smoother transitions. Silent interval shooting prevents mechanical shake and avoids annoying shutter noise. Low-light metering can be extended to ?6 EV in low-light autofocus mode, and exposure time can be extended up to 900 sec.
