More sharpness

Point light sources, such as distant streetlights at night, are reproduced with superior precision because sagittal coma has been almost completely corrected. Point light sources appear in the image as naturally round points, even at the edges of the image.

More light

Two ED glass lenses and aspherical lenses each also contribute to razor-sharp images with high brilliance, clear colors and rich contrasts.

More nuances

Nikon's Nano Crystal Coatings are highly effective at reducing reflections and therefore ghosting and flare. Your image will be clearer and more brilliant, especially in backlit situations. The effect is also clearly visible on subjects with multiple light sources in the image field.

The lens supports the camera's built-in image stabilizer (VR), which allows you to use exposure times that are up to five light levels longer. This enables you to take sharp photos in fading daylight and record video without camera shake.

Everything under control

The wide, easy-grip adjustment ring enables intuitive yet precise handling. For shooting or filming with autofocus, you can assign it the function for setting ISO sensitivity or exposure compensation. For manual focus, it becomes the distance adjustment ring  and depending on the speed at which you turn the ring, the focus drive responds differently. This makes it easy for you to set the focus with high precision and to pull the focus close to subject elements when filming.
