Designed and built to deliver high precision even at the highest speeds, it is the first NIKKOR super-telephoto lens to feature the new "SPORT" image stabilizer mode. SPORT mode enables a smooth viewfinder image when tracking fast subject movement and continuous shooting at virtually the same maximum frame rate as when the image stabilizer is off. Two fluorite lenses provide better imaging performance, lighter weight and improved handling balance. Fluorine coating resists dust, water and dirt without compromising image quality.
Fast super telephoto lens: Focal length of 400 mm and high speed of 1:2.8.
High imaging performance: Two fluorite and two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass lenses each help to minimize color aberrations. The lens has a slide-in filter holder and comes with an NC clear glass filter.
Nano Crystal Coat: significantly reduces ghosting and flare, even when backlit, for brilliant images.
Electromagnetic iris control: For consistent exposurejng results even at high continuous shooting rates.
Image Stabilizer (VR): with SPORT mode. The image stabilizer compensates for camera shake and allows sharp shots with exposure times up to four stops longer. SPORT VR mode enables a smooth viewfinder image when shooting fast-moving subjects. The low shutter lag and frame rate in continuous shooting hardly differ from those with VR off.
Tripod adapter ring: Durable bearing for smooth switching between portrait and landscape modes.
Fluorine coating: actively repels water, dust and dirt without compromising image quality. The fluorine coating is applied to the outer surface of the meniscus protective glass in front of the front lens.
Robust and lightweight: The fluorite lenses make this super telephoto lens particularly lightweight (approx. 3,800 g). The tube is designed to meet professional demands and is elaborately sealed against the ingress of dust and water.
Ergonomic tripod mount: points to the front of the lens, making the lens easier to carry when mounted on a monopod. A security slot anti-theft device provides additional protection.
One-piece lens hood: can be flipped and reversed, allowing it to remain attached to the lens during transport.
Supplied lens case: The lens comes with the durable CT-405 case for convenient and safe transportation.
