The optical construction consists of 16 elements in 12 groups and includes an aspherical lens, a Super ED lens and three ED lenses. Due to the optimal position of the ED lens, chromatic aberration is minimized. The aspherical lens provides excellent resolution and sharpness.

The new autofocus system produces beautiful close-ups

Focusing is achieved using the so-called Floating Focus System, which is based on two high-precision controlled focus groups in the front and rear areas of the lens and works extremely precisely. This system results in high resolution at close range and effectively minimizes aberrations that occur at very short shooting distances.

A newly developed sliding system, using ceramic ball bearings, controls the movement of the two focus groups. This system enables the highest image quality from the center to the edges of the image thanks to the precise movement of both focus groups.

Due to the internal focusing system, the overall length of the lens does not change when focusing. Photographers therefore do not have to worry about the front lens unintentionally touching the subject being photographed when focusing.

Effective image stabilization

The new optical image stabilizer (OIS) is specially designed for macro shots, which are particularly prone to blur due to the large image scale. An accelerometer and a gyro sensor compensate for unwanted horizontal, vertical and rotational movements and enable up to five stops longer exposure times (measured according to CIPA guidelines).
