The new flagship lens in SIGMA's Sports product line, SIGMA 500mm F4 DG OS HSM, not only meets this demand, but also incorporates SIGMA's latest technologies and offers a full range of sophisticated features and functions: improved dust- and splash-proof construction, optical stabilizer (OS), compatibility with SIGMA's tele-converters, AF function switch, SIGMA's latest-generation Hyper-Sonic Motor (HSM) and more. The SIGMA 500mm F4 DG OS HSM | Sports combines optical excellence with functionality for demanding shooting situations, setting a new standard for high-performance telephoto lenses.

1. Outstanding functionality for demanding shooting

- Enhanced dust and splash-proof construction andexclusive protector protection

The SIGMA 500mm F4 DG HSM | Sports features a highly effective dust and splash-proof construction, making it designed for top performance in harsh,difficult shooting conditions. The front and rear lens elements have a water- and oil-repellent coating, so water can be easily wiped away and oil and grease cannot adhere to the surface. This feature is especially useful when shooting in drizzle or spray near the sea. The lens is compatible with the exclusive SIGMA Protector LPT-11 (available as an option). This filter provides additional protection to the front lens of the lens during use.

- Magnesium alloy barrel

To minimize the weight of the Super Tele lens, the lens barrel is made of magnesium alloy. This alloy, which is as light as it is durable, contributes to the excellent handling of the SIGMA 500mm F4 DG HSM | Sports.

- Lens hood made of carbon fiber

The lens hood is made of carbon fiber, a particularly lightweight and robust material. The entire lens is designed to be lightweight with excellent performance to support the photographer even in difficult shooting conditions.

- Tripod clamp with 90° detent

Since photographers often use a monopod or tripod to shoot with such a super-telephoto lens, the tripod clamp1 is large and extremely sturdy in design. Also, the anti-static nickel coating on the tripod clamp parts enhances the quality and durability of the 90° detent. In addition, it becomes even easier to switch between landscape and portrait modes. To be able to align the lens detached from the 90° detents, the detent on the lens can be disengaged by a switch. The specially designed carrying strap2 can be attached to the tripod clamp for easy transport. This also relieves the strain on the connection of the camera to which the lens is attached.

- Includes Nikon's electromagnetic iris mechanism

In the Nikon version, the lens features the electromagnetic iris mechanism and is thus able to process signals from the camera body. This feature provides precise iris control and stable performance during automatic exposure (AE) in continuous shooting mode.

2. Superior Optical Performance

The lens incorporates one SLD and two FLD glass elements, and the optimized power distribution helps minimize spherical aberration and longitudinal chromatic aberration. In addition, the optical design minimizes lateral chromatic aberrations that can otherwise affect telephoto shots. Image quality remains excellent even when the lens is used with a SIGMA teleconverter (available as an option).

The Circular Polarizing Filter RCP-11 is a drop-in filter that rotates effortlessly. (A protector, located in the filter drawer at the rear of the lens, is a standard accessory)

3. Features that meet the needs of professional photographers

- OS system with accelerometer sensor and new, intelligentOS algorithm

The Optical Stabilizer (OS) features an accelerometer sensor - for even more precise performance and for compensation of up to four exposure levels. Two OS modes are available: OS mode 1 is suitable for standard photography and mode 2 is ideal for motorsports photography and other moving subjects that require dragging. In mode 2, the accelerometer, intelligent OS, and new algorithm work together to provide effective stabilization whether the camera is moved horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. This feature enables effective panning and ensures superior shots of moving subjects.

- AF function switch with preset AF modes.

The AF function switch allows you to make your own personal autofocus settings. The lens can remember the focus position of your choice or turn AF off until needed again.
Note: The illustration shows the lens with SIGMA mount. The available switch functions may vary depending on the port.

- Two anytime MF modes are available, including Manual-Override

MO (Manual-Override) switch position has been added to the AF/MF switch as an additionalFocus mode option. When the switch is in the MO position, turning the focus ring results in manual focus even in focus tracking AF mode. In the AF position, the default setting for anytime MF is active. MO sensitivity can be adjusted using the SIGMA USB dock.

- Quieter and faster AF

The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures fast and silent AF. By further improving the drive algorithm of the previous models, an additional increase in focus accuracy in focus tracking AF (AF-C) has been achieved.

4. SIGMA's tele-converters, port converters and USB dock allow customization and flexible adaptation for specific purposes

- AF is maintained in combination with tele-converters

The new tele-converters (optional), which have been specially developed for the new lens product lines, are also compatible with this lens. Incombination with the SIGMA TELE CONVERTER TC-1401 you get anAF 700mm F5.6 super tele lens and in combination with the TELECONVERTER TC-2001 you get an AF 1000mm F8.

- Compatible with the MC-11 mount converter

The MC-11 mount converter makes it possible to use interchangeable lenses with SIGMA SA mount andSIGMA EF mount on camera bodies with the Sony E-mount. Photographers using different camera systems can now use their valuable lenses flexibly.

- SIGMA USB Dock - Customizable to your needs

Customizations such as firmware updates, focus adjustment, anytime MF function -- combined with the ability to adjust the sensitivity of when to switch to MF by rotating the focus ring -- are possible with the optional SIGMA USB Dock, which is connected to a computer with the accompanying "SIGMA Optimization Pro" software. With this lens, the set individualizations can be added to the lens itself depending on the photographic situations. In the individualization mode, the AF speed and the focus range limiter, which narrows the desired focus range, can be set. For the optical stabilizer settings, a choice can be made between "Dynamic OS mode", "Standard" and "Moderate OS mode".
